This is just plain mean spirited

I went to a 'planning' meeting at the beginning of week here where I live. I wanted to get on the agenda to discuss an issue at the upcoming city council meeting. I arrived ontime, the right day, the right place only to find out the 'planning' meeting was rescheduled!

"Well, so what," you might say, "attend the re-scheduled planning meeting, deal with it, cope."  Mmmmm. No can do. The meeting actually happened the DAY before the original meeting was 'planned'!

Suppose you were getting married. And suppose you showed up at your own wedding on your wedding day.And suppose the wedding plannner told you, "oh, you are late, we held your wedding last week and you weren't there. Your fiance married your best man."

Sounds like a nightmare to me!

But its no nightmare, its true! At South Terrebonne High School in Houma, LA, This happened just last Saturday, when 10 students were turned away from THEIR OWN PROM, because they were "late".

How late? Not late at all. There was absolutely no rule or notice stating that that students would not be allowed to attend prom if they came after a 'certain' time.

It was all arbitrary! The Principal decided at the last moment, not to let these 10 students into their own prom!

Principal Kenneth Delcambre acknowledged the cut-off time wasn’t publicized to students before the prom but said it will be next year. He would not discuss the incident in detail.

And the Superintendant Philip Martin, could not figure out if the rule was appropriate or not.

What I would like you to do is help these people out! Help them figure out that it was a slap in the face to these kids who looked forward to their prom all year! You can email Superintendant Martin or just call and let him know what you think at (985) 876-7400 ext. 220

Now I must say, I myself was late to my own prom, because an intoxicated girl at the restaurant we went to pre-prom, puked all over the waiting area. Luckily, our prom lasted late into the night, so it didn't matter when we came.

And it shouldn't matter when you arrive to your own d@## event. It's your special day/night. Needless to say, these kids, not only spent money on prom dresses, tuxes but tickets, meals, and a limo! One girl spent close to $900.00!
For nothing.

But I think the loss is a lot more than monetary! Even if the kids and the parents got back all of the 10,000 or so dollars they spent, the loss is so much more if you are denied what is truly yours. The rite of passage into the grownup world was taken away like blowing sand on a windy day.
