In a small town in New Jersey, parents and community leaders have been committed to offering their high schoolers a safe post prom party for for 25 years.
”The idea is that we don’t want kids after the prom to go out and drink and drive; we want to be safe,” said parent and West Windsor Plainsboro High School Post Prom co-chairperson Ashima Saksena.

Everybody benefits from the gift wrapping service and its one of the most lucrative fundraising events. It isn’t just the 50 or so folks who will be wrapping gifts. With nearly 500 volunteers, the event has a large pool of helping hands and creative thinkers to draw on. One resident, artist Murali Harathi, will be creating prints of his watercolor works to sell, and crafter Gina Finnie will be selling “memory quilts” to help.
The Post Prom committee has a variety of events lined up during the rest of the year to raise money for the event, which provides students an evening of fun of the high school. During the chaperoned event, students will be treated to food, games, entertainment and more.
Post Prom volunteers are confident they’ll raise the approximately $40,000 they expect will be needed to hold this year’s event. Students and their dates attend the event free, but the committee estimates it will cost approximately $75 per student.
Ms. Saksena said Post Proms wouldn’t be possible if not for the community coming together.
